Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke:
- Good news for Roanoke drivers: Local gas prices are 5.5 cents cheaper per gallon than they were last week. The average price of gas in the area is now $4.04 per gallon. Despite the slight decrease in price, Roanoke gas prices are $1.39 per gallon higher than this time last year. (WDBJ)
- More than a dozen new firefighters have recently been hired by Roanoke County Fire & Rescue. The hirings will make it possible for Roanoke County Fire & Rescue to staff more trucks and have more people available to respond to emergencies. (WDBJ)
- The Wild Ways, a new Roanoke non-profit organization, is using the outdoors to help girls gain confidence. The organization runs a program for girls ages 9-14, and challenging activities help them build self-esteem by overcoming challenges. The program incorporates hiking, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, and horseback riding. (WSLS 10)
