Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke:
- The Roanoke Police Department is still searching for a suspect in the weekend shooting that occurred in the 600 block of Liberty Road Northwest. A man was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is being directed to contact the Roanoke Police Department. (Roanoke Times)
- The Roanoke City Council voted on Monday to continue their relationship with Pskov, Russia. Mayor Sherman Lea sent Governor Youngkin a letter detailing how Roanoke wants to continue supporting Pskov while stressing that the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine is unacceptable. Councilman Bill Bestpitch's resolution used pro-Ukraine language while supporting their sister city of Pskov. (Martinsville Bulletin)
- Roanoke City medical leaders are working to halt the spread of Hepatitis A throughout the Roanoke region. Currently, 31 people have been infected this year which is dramatically higher than the 2-5 person rate usually seen each year. Dr. Cynthia Morrow, the health district's director of Roanoke City, reports that 80 percent of the infections were in people who routinely use injection drugs. (WDBJ)
