Here are the top three stories in Roanoke today:
- The Roanoke Police Department responded to an accident on Sunday that claimed the life of a Roanoke resident. Anthony Williams, 30, was pronounced deceased on the scene at the 3400 block of Melrose Avenue NW. The department is conducting an investigation into the cause of the collision but initial reports suggest that speed was not a factor. (WFIR News Talk Radio)
- Roanoke's Dr. Pepper Park will host the Indigo Girls on Aug. 17. They are best known for their singles "Closer to Fine" and "Kid Fears". They have recorded sixteen studio albums with over 15 million individual records being sold throughout their career. Tickets will go on sale to the public this Friday. (WFIR News Talk Radio)
- A Sunday housefire has displaced four people, a dog, and ten snakes. According to the Roanoke Fire-EMS, the fire originated from the kitchen and caused roughly $40,000 in damages to the home in the 700 block of Brownwood Drive NW. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to those that were displaced by the fire. (WDBJ)
