Here are the top stories today in Roanoke:

1. A Roanoke man was cited on weapons charges Saturday after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on bag at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport. The handgun was loaded with six bullets. Transportation Security Administration officials detected the gun in the man's bag and alerted airport police, who confiscated the gun. Passengers are only permitted to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are properly packaged and declared at their airline ticket counter, according to the TSA. (WDBJ7)
2. The City of Roanoke Treasurer's Office will be closed to the public on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12 to 5 p.m., beginning Oct. 7, 2021, through Oct. 26, 2021. During these closings, as well as on evenings and weekends, employees will receive training for a new tax and treasury system and test the system in preparation for its launch. Payments will continue to be processed as received through the mail and the Treasurer's Office drop-box, as well as online. Employees will respond to any after-hours email and voicemail messages by the following business day. (Press Release Desk )
