First, today's weather:

Here are the top two stories today in Roanoke:

  1. On Friday, Lucy Addison Middle School was closed due to a water main break. The break happened around 6:00 AM Friday morning before students arrived. Water authorities predict that the water outage would not last longer than Friday. (WDBJ7)
  2. Roanoke County Fire and Rescue confirmed the death of one person and one dog in a house fire. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon at 6600 block of Back Creek Road. The resident's name has not been released; according to fire crews, the house is a "total loss." (WDBJ7)

  • Due to the likelihood of winter weather on Sunday, the Colonel Theatre Company has adjusted its schedule for the weekend. The company will perform two shows on Saturday in lieu of a Sunday show. (Facebook)
  • The Roanoke Valley SPCA wants to be a community resource for everyone in the region, including those who might speak English as a second language or may not speak English at all. To reach this goal, they're actively recruiting bilingual volunteers. (Instagram)
  • Due to the weather forecast and expected winter storm, Elmwood on Ice will be closed on Sunday, Jan. 16 and Monday, Jan. 17. The rink will remain open today. (Facebook)
