Good day, people of Roanoke! Nicole Fallon-Peek here with your Friday edition of the Roanoke Daily.

First, today's weather:

Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 47 Low: 28.

Here are the top three stories in Roanoke today:

  1. On early Thursday morning, Frank Campbell died from injuries sustained in a hit and run accident in Roanoke County. Police apprehended Benjamin Cross Thursday afternoon and arrested him for the incident. Police have said the suspect and the victim knew each other and their relationship will be further investigated. (WDBJ7)
  2. The Roanoke City Police Department announced that because of their staffing shortage they will no longer provide an in-person response for stray or loose animals. Many police officials are out due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. In the immediate future, the police will focus on helping animals that are sick or in immediate danger. (WFIR News Talk Radio)
  3. Because of the record high community transmission rates in Roanoke city, there will be transportation delays due to an increase in bus driver absences. If there is a delay with a school bus, parents will receive a robocall providing them with further details. (WFIR News Talk Radio)
