Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke:
- The race for the vacant Roanoke City Council seat has another candidate. Terry McGuire has thrown his hat into the ring and is running as a Democrat. His campaign is reportedly focused on climate change and sustainability. The primaries will be held on Jun. 21 with early voting starting in May. (WDBJ)
- The Adult Care Center of Roanoke Valley has fully reopened its doors after recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic, the center saw 42 to 44 participants per day and the center hopes that it will see numbers returning to those levels post-pandemic. According to the center's Executive Director, the services they offer are vital to senior citizens and to their caregivers. (WDBJ)
- Blue Ridge Parkway projects are expected to conclude by the end of the year. The announcement was made by the National Park Service regarding the Roanoke River Bridge. A detour has been in place since May 2021. Repairs were needed after a 150-foot chunk of roadway was washed away in 2020 due to heavy rains. (WSLS 10)
