Here are the top stories today in Roanoke:
- Councilman Robert Jeffrey Jr. has been asked by the Roanoke City Council to take a leave of absence following multiple felony charges. Jeffrey has been indicted on two counts of felony embezzlement and two counts of felony obtaining money by false pretense from the Economic Development Authority for the City of Roanoke. Under Virginia law, it would solely be by Jeffrey's decision to step down or continue serving on the council at this point in the legal process. (WSLS 10)
- A pilot had to make an emergency landing on Apple Road in Franklin County near Boone Mills at 7:16 p.m. Monday. The pilot refueled and attempted a dry run yesterday morning, however, he couldn't get the plane stopped in time because of a gravel road and hit a parked Virginia State Police car with the left-wing of the plane. No one was in the car at the time. (WDBJ7)
- The Roanoke City Council on a 4-3 vote rejected developer Robert Fralin's plans for 69 apartments and townhomes on nearly 7.6 acres of vacant land near Brandon and Brambleton avenues. (Roanoke Times)
- The First GO Fest in downtown Roanoke was determined successful despite the new location from River's Edge. (WSLS 10)
- The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is accepting walk-in customers again, however, it will continue to schedule appointments. (WDBJ7)
