Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke:
- Hundreds of Roanoke residents gathered at Poff Building to show support for abortion rights on Saturday. The event's theme was "Bans Off Our Bodies" and was organized by the Roanoke Women's March and Planned Parenthood Votes! South Atlantic. Passing cars showed support by honking. (WDBJ)
- Roanoke Valley hospitals report they are fully stocked during the ongoing national baby formula shortage. According to LewisGale Medical Center, they have a supply chain team devoted to securing baby formula directly from manufacturers to ensure supply. Moms needing baby formula during this crisis are being directed to reach out to their pediatrician. (WSLS 10)
- Saturday's Runway 5K at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport had hundreds of participants. Racers were able to run on the airport's runway to remember the legacy of Julie Jeavons, who passed away from breast cancer. $25,000 was raised during the race for the Carilion Clinic Cancer Center. - Roanoke Police Department congratulates its officers who became certified cyclists through the International Police Mountain Bike Association. These officers are now fully trained to patrol the city on bicycles. (Facebook)
- Roanoke Valley SPCA announces that Bear has finally been adopted. If you had your heart set on Bear, don't worry — there are plenty more adorable, adoptable pets at the shelter awaiting their forever homes. (Facebook)
