Here are the top stories today in Roanoke:

  1. Chief Roman of the Roanoke Police Department has spoken out about the recent uptick in crime in Roanoke. As of yesterday evening, there have been three shootings over three days across Roanoke city. In 2021 alone there have been 61 violent incidents involving a gun. Statistically, the summer months see the most amount of crime, but Chief Roman says he can't predict when there will be a decrease. (WDBJ7)
  2. Opera Roanoke is beginning their 46th season this weekend with a performance of the psychological thriller, "Bluebeard's Castle." The show runs from this Friday through Sunday at the Jefferson Center. (WDBJ7)
  3. Roanoke's Bagged Leaf Collection service will begin soon and go through December on certain weeks. (Press Release Desk )
  4. Roanoke police have arrested Tahir Dixon, 38, suspected of shooting a man over the weekend outside a home in the 1400 block of Loudon Avenue NW. (WSET)
