Here are the top stories in Roanoke today:
- A man was rushed to the hospital after a shooting in Roanoke early Sunday morning. Police responded to reports of a gunshot victim in the 4100 block of Melrose Avenue NW and found an unresponsive adult male in a vehicle with a gunshot wound. Local police are asking for anyone with information about the incident to come forward. (WSLS 10)
- A lawsuit has officially been filed in connection with a recent hepatitis A outbreak at Famous Anthony's. Mindy Perdue of Franklin County is seeking $500,000 in compensatory damages for medical expenses and lost wages while she was hospitalized with the disease, which she alleges she contracted from eating at Famous Anthony's in August. There have now been 30 hepatitis A cases reported by people who dined at the local family-owned restaurant chain. (Free: awsforwp.com; Subscription: Roanoke Times)
- A state-sponsored COVID-19 vaccine center coming to the Valley View Mall this week. Appointments will be available starting Oct. 14 at the former Sears location. (WSET)
- Polls show that Terry McAuliffe's lead over Glenn Youngkin is narrowing in the race for Virginia governor, with McAuliffe only leading by 4 percent. (WVIR)
- All of Food Lion's 1,100-plus locations, including the seven in Roanoke, will be hosting open interviews for part-time, full-time, and seasonal positions tomorrow, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (WSLS 10)
