Here are the top stories in Roanoke today:
- The Roanoke Valley's largest holiday celebration, The Roanoke Times Dickens of a Christmas, is returning to its traditional format on the first three Fridays of December this year. The parade was not held last year due to the pandemic and was canceled in 2019 due to winter weather. The event will kick off Friday, Dec. 3 with the lighting of the City of Roanoke Christmas Tree on the Plaza behind the Market Building. The ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m. on the Freedom First Main Stage. (WDBJ7)
- All southbound lanes of I-581 in Roanoke were shut down for several hours Monday morning near Valley View Mall due to a tractor-trailer crash and fire. The cause of the accident has not been determined and the driver is unhurt. (WFXR)
- Officials are reminding residents in Roanoke County of an approaching tax deadline.
The second half of real estate taxes are due by the close of business on Monday, Dec. 6. Drop boxes are installed for check payments at multiple locations across Roanoke including the Roanoke County Administration Center. (WFXR)
