Here are the three top stories today in Roanoke:
- In just days, no one will be able to lay or camp on Roanoke sidewalks anymore. The new ordinance goes into effect on Saturday and stems from hundreds of complaints of disruption, public urination, and sidewalk interference the city has received. Business owners spoke on how it's disruptive to business, while others argued the new law criminalizes homelessness. (WSET)
- The Roanoke Salvation Army is far behind its goal for the Red Kettle campaign. The organization had set a goal of $150,000 for this year, and as of just before Christmas, they're short by about $50,000. It's not too late to make your donation. (WDBJ7)
- Shoppers in the City of Roanoke will soon be faced with a tax on plastic bags. Starting in 2022, Roanoke will become the first city in the Commonwealth to put a tax on plastic bags. (WSLS 10)
