Here are the top three stories in Roanoke today:

  1. The Roanoke Police Department has awarded three Award of Valor medals. The awards were given to a K9 unit, Officer B Smith, and Sergeant Thompson. Officer Smith was awarded his medal for his actions during a Sept. 29, 2021 incident and Sergeant Thompson was awarded his medal for his actions during a Jul. 24, 2021 incident involving K9 Loki.   2. The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a shooting that left two men injured. The incident occurred in the 3900 block of Greenlawn Avenue NW on Friday morning. One man was treated at the scene while the other man was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. (WSLS 10)
  3. Charges have been dropped for a Roanoke man accused of breaking into a home and firing a weapon as he left the premises. The charges were dropped after Rahyeem Tyquan Baker could not be identified by either a witness or security footage. Baker has maintained his innocence throughout the entire process. (Roanoke Times)
