WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S IN Roanoke RAISES over $98,800

Jim's Team to Fight Alzheimer's Named Top Fundraising Team at Walk to End Alzheimer's -Roanoke

ROANOKE, VA, November 18, 2021 – Over 300 Roanoke area residents participated in this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 30 at the Salem Civic Center. Participants raised more than $98,873 to support the care, support and research programs of the Alzheimer’s Association.

“We were excited to be back in person at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s this year, keeping the health and safety of our participants, staff and volunteers as top priorities,” said Jeanne Snyder, Community Executive for the Central and Western Virginia Chapter. “Participants have raised more than $98,800 to support the care, support and research programs of the Alzheimer’s Association and we know the total will likely climb even higher because fundraising continues until December 31.”

Jim’s Team to Fight Alzheimer’s was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising more than $20,000. Team Captain Annette Carter of Vinton, has been the top fundraiser for many years, hosting fundraisers including the “Swing It to End It” golf tournament each year.

62 teams with close to 300 participants walked this year, some in person at the Salem Civic Center on Saturday Oct. 30 and some at home in their own neighborhoods.

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Virginia alone, there are more than 150,000 people living with the disease and 349,000 caregivers.
