Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke:
- Roanoke Valley SPCA's popular fundraiser returns to the area on Friday. The Best In Show event will feature more than 200 local artists' work representing pets. Fifty percent of the proceeds gained from the sale of the artwork will go towards the shelter. (WSLS 10)
- A federal appeals court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Roanoke man alleging that he and 1,000 other people were illegally banned from a Roanoke Walmart. Jeremiah Henderson filed the suit after receiving a letter from the Roanoke Police Department instructing Henderson to not return to the store after a 2018 incident. Henderson also attempted to file a lawsuit against a Roanoke police officer but that case was also dismissed. (Roanoke Times)
- A Roanoke soldier who perished in the South Pacific 77 years ago during World War II has been identified. Army Air Force Pfc. Edward Hewitt Benson Jr's remains were identified by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency on Thursday. Benson's remains will be returned to Roanoke for burial. (Roanoke Times)
