Morning, Roanoke! As you may know, Amazon Web Services experienced an outage on Tuesday that affected the Roanoke Daily. Some of you might have received a late newsletter on Wednesday, or no newsletter at all. Please know this was unfortunately beyond our control, but know that we are fully back in business! - Nicole Fallon-Peek

First, today's weather:

More clouds than sun. High: 48 Low: 33.

Here are the top stories today in Roanoke:

  1. A one-year-old pit bill was rushed to the hospital after he was shot in the front yard of his owner's Northwest Roanoke home last Thursday night. The vet said the wounds to Baby Dalmae's leg are so severe, it requires reconstructive surgery and he'll need to go to a specialist. His owner started a GoFundMe page to help pay for the nearly $3,000 surgery, which is the best chance for Baby Dalmae to live a normal life. (WSLS 10)
  2. The City of Roanoke is reminding citizens that Friday, Dec. 10, is the deadline to participate in the survey to provide input for the City's Youth and Gang Violence Community Assessment. The assessment is being conducted by the City's Gun Violence Prevention Commission, to aid in collecting community-driven perspectives—particularly youth perspectives—on the issues surrounding gang violence. (Press Release Desk)
  3. There's a new sheriff in town, and his name is Antonio Hash. The City of Roanoke elected Hash last month and Tuesday the Sheriff-elect was sworn in. The new sheriff says he has big plans for when he takes office in January. (WSLS 10)
