Flooded Roads, Water Rescue Impact Vienna Area

Heavy rains resulted in a swift water rescue in Wolf Trap and flooding of Maple Avenue in Vienna.

WOLF TRAP, VA—Heavy rain in a short time frame caused flooding on Vienna's main road and a swift water rescue in Wolf Trap Monday, July 8.

The swift water rescue happened just before 9 a.m. at Meadowlark Road and Brookside Lane. Three people were rescued from a vehicle trapped in floodwaters. The incident was among numerous water rescue calls mainly in the Vienna and McLean areas. As of noon, the fire department responded to 55 calls for swift water rescues in Fairfax County.

Among the other flooded roads was Maple Avenue in the Town of Vienna. Patch readers shared photos of the road flooded in the area near Wolftrap Creek. The road was temporarily closed between Beulah Road and E Street but has reopened.

The NWS issued a flood warning through 6 p.m. Monday to replace the flash flood warning. "Although the threat of rapid rise life threatening flooding is diminishing, some flooding is likely to continue for the rest of the afternoon," the NWS report states.
