Blog Post: Don't Forget Mom May 12th at the Vienna Farmers Market
Come to the Vienna Farmers Market this Saturday and enjoy the wonderful fresh fruits, vegetables, grass fed meats, dairy and plants. Nothing says I love you for Mother's Day like home grown goodness.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the market on opening day on Saturday, May 5. It was a great opening day.
Farmer Dave and I have planted calla lilies, Gerber daises, tomato plants and an assortment of herbs including basil (all from the market). Planting the latter reminded me of Mother’s Day, which is this Sunday and that of course reminded me of my Mother who passed last August. She always had a superstition that it was bad luck to plant basil until after the second week of May—friends would tell me that was ridiculous but she was always right! My plantings might just survive this year with the warm weather we’ve been having.
One of my great joys as a market manager while my mom was alive was bringing some of the bounties from the market to her including Westmoreland’s heirloom tomatoes, Kuhn’s squash flowers, cottage cheese from South Mountain Creamery, and her favorite Peanut Brittle from Betty Jane’s Sweet Delights.
