Blog Post: Rock Band, Laser Tag & Church?!?!

Things have sure changed since this blogger was a teenager. Can church actually be fun?

Sometimes teenagers get a bad rap. But not at St. Mark Catholic Church in Vienna. When you enter Junior High, you become one of the "cool kids" and you're eligible to particpate in Junior High Youth Ministry activities. And boy have things changed since my day!

Back when I was 13 or 14, going to church usually meant listening to a bunch of old fogies talking about boring stuff like saints & sins. And while that may sound interesting to me now, it certainly did not then. It seemed like all they talked about what was what teens shouldn't do or couldn't do.

But check out this video on our There's No Place Like Vienna blog and you'll see that these days, not only do they help teens figure out how to deal with stuff they face in their everyday lives, but it means doing things like playing laser tag, eating pizza, going bowling, baking cookies for prisoners, playing Rock Band, packing care packages for overseas soldiers, hanging out, "trunk or treating", skiing & more.

You don't have to be Catholic to participate; you just have to be in 7th or 8th grade. St. Mark's Youth Minister Angie Pometto says, "All are welcome."

The Kick Off for Fall Youth Ministry Activities is September 28th in the St. Mark CFC Gym from 6:30-8:00PM. (St. Mark Catholic Church is on Vale Road in Vienna.) And those who come are eligible for all kinds of fun - including raffles for toys, candy and even gift cards from places like Best Buy & Cold Stone Creamery! (Wow! I wish I was in 7th grade again!)

People like Angie Pometto and the junior high kids at St. Mark Cathlic Church are just another reason why we love living in Vienna!
