Blog Post: Seasonal Plus Variety at Vienna Market
There are some people who say you can't buy good taste but we beg to differ – you can do exactly that at your nearby farmers market/Vienna Farmers Market.
Seasonal eating comes with variety and good taste at the Vienna Farmers Market
A unique aspect of Farmers Market’s is that they can offer a variety that is not found in most grocery stores. Our local fruits and vegetables are grown for their flavor, texture, perfume and their very essence. I always joke with one of our vendors that she should bottle the scents of her peaches…but the joke is I’m not really joking—they smell delicious and gorgeous. I have another friend who said once that the saddest thing she ever heard was “those are the last of the peaches this year.” And no doubt it really was because she could go and purchase grocery store peaches but they would not be the sweet smelling, sweet tasting peaches found at the Vienna Farmers Market.
Where else but at a farmers market can you go and pick out 10 or 12 types of apples in the fall? Or find five plus different types of peaches. How about choosing between two or three types of strawberries—who knew there were different types? Who knew there were different types of cabbage? You can even buy different types of radishes at our market if you want to and have a discriminating palate.

Come visit us this Saturday to get your seasonal fix -- Apples: Fuji, GoldRush, Pink Lady (last week!), and York. Get Seascape Strawberries –we’ve had other types earlier this season including the popular Sunrise, Delmarvel, Red Chief and Jewel. Radishes at the market this week include French Breakfast and Easter Egg varieties. And as for Cabbage you have quite a choice. Choose between Napa (the long slender variety), Savoy (curly head), Green and Bok Choy. Brussels Sprouts are in the cabbage family too.
There are some people who say you can’t buy good taste but we beg to differ – you can do exactly that (buy seasonal good taste) at your nearby farmers market and we hope you choose Vienna Farmers Market—operated by the Optimist Club of Greater Vienna.
