Farmers Market Open on Memorial Day Saturday -- May 25

The Vienna Farmers Market is open this Saturday, May 25 for the first time in years. We are highlighting The Swiss Bakery. And we clarify why we moved to the Faith Baptist Church parking lots.

Memorial Day weekend is finally here and for the first time in 9 years the Vienna Farmers Market is OPEN at 301 Center Street South. Hurray!

We are highlighting one outstanding vendor this week – The Swiss Bakery and Pastry Shop which offers tasty and nutritious fare for breakfast and more.

Walking through the market and going to the Swiss Bakery reminds my husband of his childhood in Europe—the wonderful breads including: Whole Spelt, Zopf, Swiss Boule, and Brotchen Rolls. Their hearty breads, buns and pastries are now legends.

As managers of the Vienna Farmers Market our greatest desire was to have a true European bakery at the farmers market – now you can walk through the Vienna Farmers Market; buy flowers, plants, fresh vegetables and true European bread! Wonderful! If you are feeling a bit sinful have a cinnamon roll, a laugen roll, mini quiche, strudel or of course a wonderful Bavarian pretzel.

And let me tell you about a secret--the Swiss Bakery sells pints of handmade ice cream (each week 2 different flavors). I really like the Swiss milk chocolate, rum raisin and Oreo flavors. Perfect for summer, what a treat.

You’ll get cheerful and professional service at the distinctive red awning Swiss Bakery. Look for the clear see through windows. It’s a stand where everyone is welcome to stop by and say Gruezi or Hi in Swiss German.  You can look through their “wish book” and preorder a cake, pie or whatever for special occasions. Their creations make for truly wonderful events.

A small clarification this week--we’re finding over and over again that there is a misconception about why the Vienna Farmers Market moved. We had to move. We were not given a choice. In January we were told that the agreement with the owner of the Caboose lot would not be renewed. You might also be surprised to learn that if the Faith Baptist Church had not come to the rescue – we would not have been able to have a market at all this year. Finding a new location was not an easy task. So again, we did not move to increase vendor space. But as Optimists we move forward and don't look back.

We are eternally grateful to the Faith Baptist Church for their kind offer of their parking lots this year (it truly is an open armed hug to the entire Vienna community). But with our thanks said, we understand that the parking situation has not been easy. Parking is available at the Vienna Elementary, the Community Center, nearby doctors’ offices, and on side streets. We all hope (Optimists and vendors alike) that you will continue to come to our wonderful market. The next special events day is on June 9. Please join us when TJ Michaels, the balloon man, will visit and kids’ games galore will happen on the church front lawn (courtesy of the Faith Baptist Church). We thank you for your time and your continued support to your community market.
