Virginia Farmers Market Week: Time to Celebrate and Commemorate
Vienna Farmers Market celebrated early last week with a visit by the Undersecretary of Agriculture.
Greetings,
The and Optimist Club of Greater Vienna is proud to have hosted the Undersecretary of Agriculture for Marketing and Regulatory Programs, Edward Avalos, last Saturday. He toured our market, had breakfast at Reuben’s Crepes/Crepes at the Market stand and topped it all off with Mama’s Donut Bites. He visited several farmers and purchased watermelons, squash, and salsa.
We also discussed our markets plan to implement the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s Electronic Benefit Transfer (SNAP EBT). We’ve recently been approved for a grant to receive a machine.

The Undersecretary’s message is that this week, Virginia Farmers Market Week, is a week to commemorate and celebrate farmers coming together to share their bounty and selling products that feed area families.
This results in thriving regional economies and increased access to fresh nutritional food all through a shared community space.

Please join us this Saturday as our farmers market banner flies over Maple Avenue and thank your local farmers who farm the fields for you and get up at 3 a.m. to come to the market to sell to you personally. See you Saturday morning.
