Brooks in Contention at Junior PGA Championship
Local golfer shoots an opening round 70, currently third on leader board.

A local golfer is making national waves this week in our nation's capital.
Shannon Brooks of Vienna is third on the leader board after one round at the 2013 Junior PGA Championship at Trump National Golf Club in Potomac Falls, Va.
Brooks shot a 70 in her opening round, good enough for a five-way tie for third place behind leader Samantha Wagner of Windermere, Fl., who shot a 67 in the first round. Kuriko Tsukiyama of West New York, NJ, is alone in second place after an opening round 69.
Brooks qualified for the event after winning the 2013 Middle Atlantic Junior PGA Championship in early July. This week's national tournament includes more than 70 golfers from across the United States, each having finished high enough in a regional qualifying tournament to earn a spot in this week's event.
The four-day tournament lasts until Friday, Aug. 2, with the winner shooting the best cumulative score across all four rounds.
