Car Crash Into Utility Pole Ignites Fire At Dunn Loring Home

The crash brought down live wires and ignited a nearby home in Dunn Loring, authorities say.

A driver crashing into a utility pole in Dunn Loring led to live wires on the road, power outages and a house fire early Wednesday morning, police and fire authorities say.

The car struck the utility pole in the 2400 block of Gallows Road around 1 a.m. before veering off the road toward trees, Fox5DC reported. The crash brought down the pole and live wires into the roadway and onto a home, causing delays on Gallows Road near Iliff Drive. A number of homes lost power.

The crash also ignited the pole, fluids on the roadway and a fire at a two-story home. Firefighters tackled fires under the home's deck and inside the home. Fire investigators say the car crash caused electrical arcs, or a breakdown of the gas that creates ongoing electricity, inside the home. Four residents escaped without injury and have declined Red Cross assistance.
