Earth And Businesses Win With Vienna’s Sustainability Challenge
Seven Vienna businesses have introduced sustainable practices and products as part of the challenge.

From the City of Vienna: Seven Vienna businesses who successfully completed the Town’s inaugural Sustainability Challenge were recognized at the December 11 Town Council meeting. Launched last spring by the Community Enhancement Commission, the Sustainability Challenge certifies businesses who adopt sustainable products, policies, and practices that improve the public’s quality of life – and may even help the businesses save money.
Through the program, certified businesses tallied a required number of points on a checklist of green practices that they undertook as part of their day-to-day operations. The businesses recognized and examples of their sustainable practices include:
Caboose Brewing Company

• donates spent grain to local farms or uses it to bake house-made crackers
• decorates with recycled items

• encourages patrons to use the W&OD trail
Caffe Amouri
• added bicycle racks for customers and employees
• bundles deliveries to maximize efficiency
• employes a robust recycling program
Cycle Chi
• utilizes reusable, rather than single-use, towels throughout the facility
• uses rechargeable batteries
• reduced office paper use

• upgraded insulation in attic and basement crawl space
• uses LED light bulbs
Purple Onion Catering Co.
• reduced office paper use
• purchases in bulk, rather than buying single products, to reduce packaging and supply costs
Social Burger
• furnished restaurant with recycled wood tables
• uses EcoCraft sustainable packaging
The Sustainability Guys
• looks for affordable, proven solutions
• focuses on areas with greatest return on investment, such as insulation and energy-efficient windows
