@JamnJavaDoorGal’s LOCAL SCENE: Lexie Hayden + Heather Mae + Amy Berry + Gwen Levey + Colleen Dyer

Eighteen year old singer-songwriter Lexie Hayden has been singing and playing music since she was about eight years old. Even though she was born and raised in Northern Virginia, she has an unforgettable country twang to her voice that you won't forget. Lexie's journey started when she got her first guitar at age thirteen, and with that guitar came a passion to perform and write songs, which would later start her music career. Her first YouTube video was posted when she was fourteen and was filmed at Jammin Java, after being invited up on stage by a local band that had been playing. Five years later she has 94 YouTube videos and two million upload views to her account. She has been named one of the "best singers on YouTube" through many fan videos, creating a fan base from all over the world. But making videos wasn't enough for her and in the summer of 2010, Lexie found herself in a recording studio for the first time. She created her first Demo CD called "Feels Like Home," showing the music world that underneath the city girl was a country heart. Each song is unlike the other, a different story written in each song. Lexie's biggest hits include her song "Closer," and her re-make of "Take It on the Run" by Reo Speedwagon, transforming the 80's rock song into a country hit. Also, more recently, this past year Lexie released a new single called "Countless" which can be found on iTunes. But besides iTunes and YouTube, the physical copy of her CD can be bought and you can find all her songs on her Pandora station! Without a major label, Lexie has still been able to build a large fan base and has an amazing career ahead of her. It's her unique voice and pure sound that keeps her fans coming back for more.

Heather Mae moved to NYC when she was 18 to become the next Broadway star but everything changed after experiencing her first bout with heartache. Fascinated with the emotions rolling thru her, Heather Mae took a microscope to her heart when she picked up her guitar, a gift from her parents after graduating high school, and began to write her first song. Like a phoenix born from the ashes, Heather Mae began anew. Soon after she released a home-recorded EP titled "Gonna Be Alright", and began performing all over NYC and DC (her hometown city). Since then Heather Mae has become a songwriting machine with her project "One Year of Songs". Starting on October 1st, 2010 and ending in the Grand Canyon on September 30th, 2011, Heather Mae successfully wrote and recorded one song every day for a year. During "One Year of Songs" she toured the country for three months meeting her new dedicated online followers and fans that had been tuning in every single day to hear her songs. She performed her songs in over 30 different states (plus Canada!), collaborated with over 100 different musicians, writers, artists, poets, and lyricists, and wrote over 7,000 lines of lyrics. Heather Mae has been called one of the "best songwriting voices of our generation" and "one to watch". This uke-wielding singer-songwriter has a charm when she is on stage and with her band, The Make Believe, by her side, her sound will break into your heart while you tap your toes.

GWEN LEVEY
"I have been singing, writing, and composing songs since I was five-years-old. Now as a 16-year-old in pursuit of a career for my passion for my music, believing in my songs and myself seems to come easier and easier with every step I make. Whether it's writing a new song or performing at every venue I can, my love for my music and a musical career is proving to be the ultimate dream to chase. Originally I started out playing on the piano, but at the end of August in 2009, I got my first guitar, which I have named Iggy. He is my best friend and probably knows the most about me because the songs I write on him reflect my life and dreams. Onstage performing is my favorite place to be and I don't like riding in the car unless the radio is on. I love the smell after it rains as a die-hard nature and animal lover. My favorite sound is laughter because its incredibly contagious--once you start, you know it's going to be hard to stop." COLLEEN DYER
