Fairfax Co. Juvenile Detention Officer Charged With Rape

LEESBURG, VA — A Fairfax County juvenile detention officer has been charged for sex offenses against a juvenile in Loudoun County.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office arrested Clifton Townsend, Jr., 60, of Leesburg, on Monday. The sheriff's office was notified of the sex crimes on Aug. 17, and an investigation determined Townsend had sexual contact with a juvenile known to him in Loudoun County. The victim is not associated with his work at the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center.

Townsend was charged with rape, carnal knowledge of a child and two counts of sodomy. He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The sheriff's office is not releasing the age and gender of the victim.
