Fairfax County Police Step Up Patrols During Holiday Shopping at Tysons

In 2013, the CATT (Christmas Anti-Theft Team) team arrested 72 people.

Police are ready for the massive influx of shoppers expected to descend upon the Tyson’s Corner area this holiday season, beginning on Black Friday, according to a news release from FCPD.

Every year, the Fairfax County Police Department deploys specially-trained groups of plain-clothed and uniformed officers to combat “seasonal” crimes such as larceny, fraud and retail theft. This year, in addition to thousands of motorists and pedestrians, many visitors are expected to arrive by the Silver Line.

In 2013, the McLean CATT (Christmas Anti-Theft Team) team arrested 72 people, charged 107 felonies, 108 misdemeanors, recovered $46,817 of stolen property, and worked 90 cases in the 26-day holiday shopping season period.

The Tyson’s Urban Team is working hard to keep residents and visitors safe. So far, between January and November 2014, officers have made 513 felony arrests, 374 misdemeanors, and recovered 122,649. in property.

The Tysons Urban Team was established in 2013 and is comprised of nine officers, a lieutenant and a sergeant. The officers supplement the McLean District Station and patrol Tysons Corner shopping areas and the Metro.
