Dwayne Haskins Fans Make Donations To NoVA Animal Rescue Group In His Honor
Wolf Trap Animal Rescue keeps receiving donations from the public in honor of Dwayne Haskins, who died in a highway accident on April 9.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Wolf Trap Animal Rescue keeps receiving donations from the public in honor of Dwayne Haskins, the former Washington quarterback who died in an accident on a Florida highway on April 9.
Haskins, a star quarterback at Ohio State University who was drafted in the first round by Washington in 2019, selected Wolf Trap Animal Rescue as his organization to represent for the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign.
Back in 2019, Haskins said he chose Wolf Trap Animal Rescue as his charitable group because he always had a deep passion for dogs. Along with urging fans to donate money to the rescue group, Haskins encouraged the public to make an effort to help dogs and adopt one if possible.

Earlier this week, new information emerged about the cause of Haskins' death. An emergency call audio obtained by a Fox Sports talk show host indicates Haskins was walking to get gas when he was fatally struck by a dump truck on April 9.
The audio, obtained by Andy Slater, includes a concerned call from Haskins' widow, Kalabrya Haskins. She told a dispatcher that Haskins had called her from the side of the road near Interstate 95 in Broward County, and said he would call her back when he finished putting gas in the vehicle.
Before the audio was posted online on Wednesday, few details had emerged as to why Haskins, 24, was walking on the highway when he was killed. Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, based in Merrifield, rescues high-risk animals from euthanasia, neglect and abuse. "These animals primarily come from Mississippi, where young animals are euthanized by the hundreds each and every day due to overpopulation," the group says on its website.
The group was founded in 2015 by Dr. Amber Burton, a shelter medicine and pediatric spay-neuter expert. Over the past seven years, staffers have rescued, treated and found adoption homes for more than 11,500 animals, including more than 9,000 dogs and puppies.
Wolf Trap Animal Rescue also partnered with the Washington Football Team to provide puppy therapy in 2019. After the visit to the team's Ashburn facility, Haskins and then-Washington defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis selected the group as their cleat beneficiaries, USA Today reported.
