Fundraiser Aids Artist In Vienna, Oakton Fundraiser Deadline Near

A local artist who had a mural in Vienna asked for the design to appear on shirts. A portion of proceeds are helping that artist.

VIENNA, VA — To aid small businesses during the pandemic, the Vienna-based owner of custom apparel maker French Press Printing has held T-shirt fundraisers in Vienna and Oakton. Now French Press Printing's Sarah Bohn is featuring a local artist's original work and donating a portion of proceeds.

The mural with the words "Vienna is for lovers" had been featured on the bike trail about a mile south of the Caboose toward Falls Church. Now, as the mural is reportedly painted over, the artist asked Bohn to create tanks, T-shirts and totes with the mural design. The artist, who wishes to remain anonymous, will receive $5 from each item.

Bohn previously held fundraisers for Vienna small businesses to help with costs such as employee pay and rent during the pandemic. The Vienna T-shirt featured logos of 34 businesses, but 27 businesses split the net proceeds as seven businesses opted out of funds.

Due to the success of the Vienna fundraiser, Bohn started a similar effort for Oakton small businesses. T-shirts are on sale through July 6, and Bohn is seeking non-perishable promotional materials from businesses to include in bags with T-shirts by July 8.

The ten Oakton businesses on the shirt include: Austin’s Big & Tall, Associates in Eyecare, Oakton Wine Shop & Bistro, Oakton Cigars & More, My House Fitness, Bobbys Bagel Cafe, Children's Dentistry of Oakton, Luciano’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, The Barber Shop & Co, Famous Dave’s Oakton and Helbing Lipp Recny Architects. Associates in Eyecare and Helbing Lipp Recny Architect opted out of receiving funds, so eight businesses will split net proceeds.
