Fire Pit Ashes Cause Heavy House Fire In Wolf Trap Area

No injuries were reported from a heavy house fire Tuesday, but five residents were displaced.

VIENNA, VA — Fire pit ashes caused a heavy fire at a Wolf Trap area home Tuesday, displacing five residents. There were no resident or firefighter injuries.

The fire happened at a single-family home in the 1700 block of Fox Run Court. Around 4:35 p.m., firefighters responded and found heavy fire from the rear and one side of the home. Units brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes.

No one had been home when the fire broke out. A neighbor had been smoke in the area and called 911. It was unclear if smoke alarms activated.

Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was improperly discarded fire pit ashes on the exterior of the home. Damages were estimated to be $293,750.

Red Cross assistance was accepted by the displaced residents.
