Hunter Mill Residents Invited To Tysons Forest Cleanup On April 12
The annual Earth Day cleanup in Tysons Forest will take place April 12, with supplies provided on-site.

TYSONS, VA — Hunter Mill District residents are invited to take part in the third annual Tysons Forest Cleanup on Sunday, April 12, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The event is being held in celebration of Earth Day and is hosted by Fairfax County Supervisor Walter Alcorn in partnership with the Tysons Forest Community Task Force.
The cleanup will take place in Tysons Forest, a 65-acre urban forest corridor that stretches from the Dulles Toll Road to Gosnell Road. The area is bisected by the Old Courthouse Spring Branch stream and serves as a natural buffer in the urban landscape of Tysons, according to a release.
“This cleanup carries out one of the actions that the task force recommended in its final report, and we’ve been we’ve been holding these annual cleanups since 2024 when the Board of Supervisors accepted their report,” Alcorn.

The Tysons Forest Community Task Force was convened in 2023 to develop strategies to preserve and enhance the forest while maintaining access for local residents and workers. According to a release from Alcorn's office, the group also aimed to capture lessons that could help other communities with urban forests managed by multiple landowners.
Alcorn said that mix of ownership made coordination a key part of the work.

“I convened a task force two years ago to develop coordinated strategies to preserve and enhance this emerald gem,” Alcorn said. “Because the land along the stream valley is owned by multiple public and private owners, the task force brought these groups together to form a common vision and action plan for keeping this stretch green and healthy."
For the past two years, Alcorn and the task force have hosted annual cleanups to help maintain the stream valley, according to the release. This year’s cleanup meeting point is the Vesper Trail bridge behind 1593 Spring Hill Road. Parking will be available behind 1593 Spring Hill Road in Vienna.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Cleanup supplies will be provided on-site. Registration is not required, but the county said it is strongly encouraged so organizers can make sure enough supplies are available.
