I-66 Lane Closures Planned Overnight Near Cedar Lane In Vienna

The Virginia Department of Transportation will implement lane closures for Transform Outside the Beltway project work.

VIENNA, VA — Overnight lane closures are coming up on Interstate 66 near Cedar Lane in Vienna, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Eastbound I-66 will be reduced to one lane approaching Cedar Lane overnight from Friday, Jan. 14 to Thursday, Jan. 20. Crews will be installing bridge beams for a new access ramp to the future I-66 Express Lanes. Express Lanes are being added alongside regular lanes between the Capital Beltway and University Boulevard in Gainesville. The expected opening date for the Express Lanes is December 2022.

Hours for the lane closures will be Friday from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Saturday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. During the lane closures, eastbound I-66 traffic will be open in a single line behind a barrier. All lanes will reopen Saturday morning by 6:30 a.m., Sunday morning by 7 a.m. and weekday mornings by 5 a.m.

Drivers should expect delays during the overnight lane closures and consider alternate routes.

Another continuing project impact is the demolition of the old Gallows Road bridge over I-66. From Sunday, Jan. 9, through Sunday, Jan. 16, three eastbound I-66 lanes will be closed overnight from east of Cedar Lane to Gallows Road. Hours for the lane closures are Sunday through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Periodic stoppages up to 20 minutes will happen nightly Sunday through Thursday between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., and Friday and Saturday between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
