FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — After tens of thousands of Northern Virginia voters received mailings with incorrect information, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors called for a state investigation.

The 31,000 mailers with incorrect information from the Virginia Department of Elections were sent to voters within towns of Fairfax and Prince William counties. Voters in the towns of Clifton, Dumfries, Haymarket, Herndon, Occoquan, Quantico, and Vienna received mailers with the incorrect location and address for their polling place, the Virginia State Board of Elections said in a news release.

About 25,000 of the mailings were in Fairfax County towns, according to the county's elections office.

On Tuesday, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay introduced a board matter to condemn the error and call for a full investigation to determine how it happened. The board matter was unanimously approved, and a letter will be sent from the board to Fairfax County's delegation in the Virginia General Assembly seeking an investigation.

McKay noted in his newsletter the Fairfax County Office of Elections "responded rapidly," sending correct information by to the voters in the impacted towns and fielding phone calls.
