James Madison Crew Finishes 2015 Regular Season
Madison Rows to Strong Regular Season Finish on Occoquan
Madison Crew capped a shortened regular season on the Occoquan (three regattas instead of the usual six) with particularly strong finishes by the Freshman Men’s and Women’s boats, and the Men’s Third Varsity in the Darrell Winslow, Smokey Jacobs and Al Urquia regattas. To demonstrate the depth and consistency of Madison crew, in all three regattas, all Madison boats competing in preliminary heats advanced to the finals, and all Madison boats placed in at least one Regatta.
The Madison men have had a particularly strong season. The Men’s Third Eight captured first places in both the Al Urquia and Smokey Jacobs Regatta, and the Men’s Freshman Eight placed first in both the Al Urquia and Darrell Winslow Regatta. The Men’s First Varsity Eight rowed to a first place finish at the Darrell Winslow regatta and a second place finish at the Al Urquia. The Men’s Second Eight placed third in two regattas, and achieved a second place at the Darrell Winslow Regatta. At the Al Urquia, the Men’s Novice Eight placed first, and the Men’s Fourth Varsity Eight placed second.
The Madison women continue to demonstrate their strength and resilience, rowing in a variety of boat configurations in an extremely competitive field. The Freshman women achieved two first place finishes, at the Al Urquia and Darrell Winslow regattas, and the Third Varsity Eight placed second at the Smokey Jacobs and third at the Darrell Winslow. The Women’s Second Eight placed third, just a second out of 2nd place at the Darrell Winslow regatta, placed fourth at Al Urquia, and placed second in their heat (advancing to finals) at the Smokey Jacobs. The Women’s First Eight achieved First, Second, and Fourth place finishes in the Occoquan regattas.
