Local Company Again Makes Fortune's '100 Best Companies to Work For' List
Billed as the world's largest credit union, this nonprofit firm has won praise for its corporate culture.

VIENNA, VA - For the sixth year, Navy Federal Credit Union has made Fortune magazine's list of the 100 Best Companies To Work For, this time with its highest ranking ever.
The Vienna-based nonprofit company, which bills itself as the world's largest credit union, reached #44 on the list. Navy Federal serves members of the U.S. armed forces and their families, including the U.S. Navy, Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard.
The credit union has more than 14,000 employees, and Fortune noted that in a survey, 95 percent said they felt proud to tell others where they worked, according to a Navy Federal statement.

“At Navy Federal, the strength and resilience of our corporate culture positively influences the work we do each day and contributes to the ability of our employees to make differences in our members' lives," said Cutler Dawson, the credit union's president and CEO, in the statement. "That's something of which we are all very proud."
This is the fifth straight year that Navy Federal has made the 100 Best Companies To Work For list. It first made the list in 2008. The credit union has about 6 million members, more than $74 billion in assets and 280 branches.

Other companies with headquarters in Northern Virginia that made Fortune's "Best" list include Hilton (#56, headquartered in McLean) and CustomInk (#58, headquartered at the Mosaic District in Merrifield), as well as Capital One (#88) and Mars (#99), both headquartered in McLean.
Fortune partners annually with Great Place to Work® Employee Survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees and asks questions related to attitudes about management's credibility, overall job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the Culture Audit© benefit programs, hiring practices, methods programs, and diversity efforts. Two thirds of a company’s score is based on the results of the Trust Index©.
