Madison girl’s field hockey has started the season strong with a 2-0 start, under new coach Lizzie McManus. Madison has 8 returning seniors to the squad this year. Playing Washington and Lee, before the start of school, Madison won 3-0 with 2 goals from Sophia DiRocco, with assists from Kierra Sweeney and Maddie Cybulski. Kierra Sweeney also scored unassisted. Coach McManus was impressed with the way the team applied new concepts. Madison beat Oakton 2-0, despite 3 green cards forcing Madison to play man down for 6 minutes, with a goal from Emma Satterfield, assisted by Kierra Sweeney and a penalty stroke goal for Sweeney. Neither team was able to convert on the penalty corners that were assessed. Sydney Lewis, the goaltender for Madison, has had the two shutouts with outstanding goal keeping. McManus says: “I’m excited to continue developing the outstanding athletes on the team into a cohesive unit that works together and builds field hockey skills and strategies each and every day.” Madison is looking forward to the remainder of the season.
