Niche 2023 Best Cities To Live: How Vienna Ranks On Virginia List

Niche, a platform for community and school ratings, ranked Vienna among Virginia's best places for public schools and to raise a family.

VIENNA, VA — Vienna ranks among Virginia's top communities for public schools and raising a family, according to the best places to live rankings published Monday by Niche.

Niche, an online platform that ranks cities and communities as a way to help students and their parents find the schools and places to live that are right for them, has been publishing the "Best Cities to Live in America" rankings for nine consecutive years.

In the 2023 ranking, Vienna was named the 20th best suburb in Virginia and 40th best place to live in Virginia. Niche gave Vienna an overall A+ grade. The town received A grades for public schools, being good for families, outdoor activities, nightlife, and health and fitness. B grades were assigned for housing, jobs, crime and safety, diversity, weather and commute. A C grade was given for cost of living, a grade similarly seen in other DC area communities.

Vienna was ranked higher for public schools and raising a family. It was named the 14th best suburb and 15th best place in Virginia for public schools. Vienna was also named the 20th best suburb to raise a family in Virginia.

Niche creates the annual Best City to Live rankings by using data from several sources, including the U.S. Census, FBI, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, combined with resident reviews.

The company considers factors such as affordability, the local housing market, neighborhood diversity, area public schools, walkability and other factors.

"Families wondering about an area’s school district can also use our comprehensive school profiles and rankings to get a feel for their child’s potential school."

The top 10 suburbs in Virginia as identified by Niche were:

  1. Innsbrook, Richmond suburb
  2. Stone Ridge, Northern Virginia
  3. Cascades, Northern Virginia
  4. Short Pump, Richmond suburb
  5. Arlington, Northern Virginia
  6. Loudoun Valley Estates, Northern Virginia
  7. Franklin Farm, Northern Virginia
  8. Broadlands, Northern Virginia
  9. Wakefield, Northern Virginia
  10. Lansdowne, Northern Virginia
