Nonprofit's Partnership with Intelsat Increases Food Security

Children enrolled in Assistance League of Northern Virginia's Weekend Food for Kids program benefit from Intelsat's continued outreach.

Thanks to its corporate partnership with Intelsat, Assistance League of Northern Virginia feeds more hungry children in need every month during the school year. The all-volunteer nonprofit is thrilled to announce that its partnership with this leader in integrated satellite communications will continue throughout the 2018-19 school year.

Since October 2015, leadership at Intelsat in McLean, VA has strongly supported the organization’s primary Operation School Bell program, Weekend Food for Kids (WFFK), by providing in-kind donations in excess of $28,000.

Through its hands-on volunteer program, Intelsat purchases selected nonperishable foods and holds an on-site packing event, attended by employees across its organization, to assemble 150 bags of food each month. These bags are then donated to the WFFK program and delivered by Assistance League member volunteers to food-insecure children in one of the 6 Title I elementary schools served. This summer, Intelsat’s generous year-round support has allowed the nonprofit to make the WFFK program available to students who have been attending summer school programs at Loch Lomond Elementary School in Manassas.
