P.E.O. STAR Scholarship Awards
2018 STAR recipients from three Fairfax County High Schools meet at Oakton High School.

Three senior women from three Fairfax County public high schools were awarded prestigious P.E.O. STAR scholarships of $2500 for the 2018-19 academic year. The women met with each other and members of their sponsoring P.E.O. Chapters at Oakton High School on May 12, 2018 to celebrate their achievement. This year there were five STAR recipients sponsored by P.E.O. Chapters in northern Virginia, 15 statewide, and a total of 760 STAR recipients in the United States and Canada.
Erin Lincoln, a senior at Oakton High School, was presented with the P.E.O. STAR scholarship at the Oakton Senior Awards Ceremony on May 22, 2018 by Betsy Davis. Erin Lincoln is the daughter of Nicole and Douglas Lincoln of Oakton and was recommended for this scholarship by Chapter N of Arlington, Virginia. Lincoln will attend Brown University where she plans to study geology beginning this fall.
The P.E.O. STAR scholarship was presented to Nadia Ashraf, a senior at South County High School, at the May 12 event at Oakton High School by Meredith Kimbell. Nadia Ashraf is the daughter of Kawser and Mohammed Ashraf of Lorton and was recommended for this scholarship by Chapter AZ of Herndon, Virginia. Ashraf has been accepted and will attend the State University of New York in Stony Brook to study biochemistry in the fall.

Jennifer Yan, a senior at Lake Braddock Secondary School, will be presented with the STAR Scholarship at the Lake Braddock Senior Awards Day on June 11, 2018 by Mary Kitchen of Vienna, Virginia. Jennifer Yan is the daughter of Lei Fei and Luyi Yan of Burke and was recommended by Chapter AL of Reston. Yan will attend Duke University where she plans to study biomedical engineering.
Other P.E.O. Chapters in northern Virginia also recommended successful STAR recipients. Chapter O of Alexandria, Virginia recommended Annelise Claire of Washington, DC and Chapter E of Falls Church, Virginia recommended Hayley Turner of Rollinsville, Colorado who will attend Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia this fall.

The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is $2500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded in 1869, is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes increased educational opportunities for women. The P.E.O.
