Pennywise Thrift Shop Serves Church Ministry For Over 60 Years
Pennywise Thrift Shop, a fundraising part of the Church of the Holy Comforter, sells used items to support charities and ministries.

VIENNA, VA — Amid development and growth, it's worth celebrating the businesses with a longstanding presence in Vienna. One of those businesses is Pennywise Thrift Shop, which has used proceeds to benefit charities and church ministries for over 60 years.
The thrift shop was founded in 1961 as a fundraising part of the Church of the Holy Comforter. Used items are sold at affordable prices to support the church's causes.
Even when a 2019 fire prompted the shop's old Church Street location to close, it reopened in a new location at 214 Dominion Road NE.

When and how was your business opened?
Pennywise was founded in 1961 by the Episcopal Church Women of Holy Comforter, lead by Mary Wood and Martha Clark. The purpose of Pennywise was to serve the citizens of the community by selling gently used clothing and household items at a reasonable price while raising money for local charities and church ministries.
What products or services are offered at your business?
For over 60 years, Pennywise has encouraged recycling by reselling slightly used clothing, kitchen items, books, shoes, and glassware/dinnerware. The shop accepts donated items and provides a consignment option, as well.
What is your favorite thing about the community your business is located in?
Pennywise was originally located on the corner of Church and Mill Streets. A fire in January of 2019 closed the shop until November 2019 when the shop reopened in their new location on Dominion Rd, NE.
The Vienna Community celebrated the return of Pennywise and has been generously supporting us with their donations and their business.
Is there any recent news at your business you would like to share with the community?
