20th Annual Oakton/Vienna Ecumenical Community Thanksgiving Service

Emmanuel Lutheran Church will host the 20th Annual Oakton/Vienna Ecumenical Community Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 18th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. This special service gathers friends and neighbors in the greater Oakton and Vienna area for an evening of reflection, song, and fellowship—and will feature remarks from Laurie DiRocco, mayor of Vienna.

A choir and musicians composed of members from Vienna and Oakton area congregations will perform a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary songs. A voluntary collection will benefit The Shepherd’s Center and The Lamb Center, two local, faith-based nonprofits that serve the homeless and others in need.

Members of more than a dozen area churches are expected to participate. Afterwards, pie will be served.

“As Thanksgiving approaches, I can think of no better way to give thanks for our many blessings than to come together as community in prayer and song, and to give back to organizations that give so much to our most vulnerable brothers and sisters,” said Rev. Dr. Anthony Prinsen, lead pastor at Emmanuel. “We invite and welcome all to join us and neighboring congregations for this very special evening.”

Special guest speaker, Laurie DiRocco, said: “We are so fortunate to live in this creative, vibrant, engaged, and caring community. One of the things I’m most grateful for this season is the support and care that Vienna residents offer to their neighbors and to those in need.”
