September 7—Fall weather brings change and a bright future

This Saturday, TJ Michaels will be at the Vienna Farmers Market to create balloon artistry for the kids from 8 am to noon.

Continue to visit us at 301 Center Street South (Faith Baptist Church parking lots) from 8 am to noon through the last Saturday in October. Also –WE ARE DELIGHTED to announce the Optimist Club of Greater Vienna (organizer and managers of the Vienna Farmers Market) just signed an agreement with the Faith Baptist Church (our gracious host) that enables us to be at this same location next year. Please join us in thanking the Faith Baptist Church and their congregation for their kind and benevolent nature. We have a bright future for 2014.  We can now start planning early to ensure that our current vendors return, find potential new vendors, and plan for new and exciting events in the future for our Vienna community (recently ranked 3rd best place to live by Money Magazine).

In addition to produce and artisanal food vendors, the Vienna Farmers Market is home to several food vendors who serve up good “ready to eat” food and wonderful roasted coffee. When you come to the market -- we encourage you to take your time if you’ve got it, it can be therapeutic to take in all the smells, sights and tastes of the market. Some of you might have noticed that once per month the Faith Baptist Church sponsors a children’s activity – which usually includes the ever popular moon bounce. Finally, there is a playground area at the back of the market for kids as well.  This is a great addition to the market – parents can enjoy some “ready to eat” food – including fruits – while the kids play in the playground area.

You can let us know your good ideas for the 2014 Vienna Farmers Market by sending an email to manager@viennafarmersmarket.com -- next year we’re hoping to bring more to the market and you can help decide what now! Help by telling us what you’d like to see at the market and make it truly your community market (within reason of course, we cannot invent a parking garage).  For special events do you want to see raw vegetable cooking classes for kids? Chef demonstrations with cold foods? Touring cookbook authors? Small festivals celebrating the arrival of strawberries, peaches, tomatoes and corn? How about more kid things such as occasional illustrator or caricature artist? What additional vendors would you like to have at the market? Seafood? Microgreens? Additional Produce? More Bakeries=specialties? You tell us?

As a reminder, market tours are available from the market manager with 2 weeks advance notice for scout and kids groups. The tour will help the scout groups earn badges and the manager will work with the scout leaders in advance if desired. Please email manager@viennafarmersmarket.com or telephone 703-200-7806. See you at the market or right here next week. Sorry this week==Borek G, Friendly Hall Farms and the Mushroom Stand will all be out but everyone will be back with more surprises next week--September 14! Farmer SJ
