Storm Debris Collections, Road Closures: Things To Know In Vienna

Most Vienna residents should have power back by Monday evening.

VIENNA, VA—Things are getting back to normal after the nor'easter struck in the form of a strong wind storm in Vienna late last week.

Here are some things to know in Vienna after the storm.

1. Power has been restored for most residents in Vienna and Fairfax County.

Hundreds of thousands of Fairfax County customers had lost power at the peak of the storm. As of noon Monday afternoon, that number was down to less than 7,000. In the Town of Vienna, just dozens remain without power. Dominion Energy says outages will be fixed by 6 p.m.-11 p.m. Monday night or Tuesday night at the latest. 2. Debris removal are underway.

At this stage in recovery efforts, the Town of Vienna and Fairfax County are prioritizing debris removal. In the Town of Vienna, workers will prioritize picking up limbs and brush in its bulk services this week. Other bulk items will be picked up next week. Brush up to eight feet in length can be recycled. Small twigs and branches should be placed in a trash can.

In Fairfax County, collectors will be out picking up debris. Brush less than four feet in length, 50 pounds and six inches in diameter can be placed out. For anything larger, contact your trash collection provider for specific instructions. Burning debris is not allowed.

Residents can also take brush or bulk debris to the I-66 Transfer Station or the I-95 Landfill Complex for a fee.

3. Some road closures remain in effect.

Most Town of Vienna roads that were closed due to downed trees and power lines have reopened. Beulah Road at MacArthur Ave remains closed. In Fairfax County, a number of intersections are closed. See the full list here.

4. Two Vienna elementary schools are closed Monday.

Fairfax County Public Schools are open Monday with the exception of seven with power outages. Freedom Hill and Westbriar Elementary Schools are among the closed schools. The district closed schools that did not have power as of 10 p.m. Sunday night.
