Thousands of County Workers Earned $100K In Overtime: 2016 Data

The majority of Fairfax County workers earning over $100,000 in overtime come from the fire, police or sheriff's departments.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA—Fairfax County will review its overtime policy after more than 1,700 county workers brought home at least $100,000 in overtime or additional pay in 2016.

WTOP reported that the majority work in fire, police or sheriff’s departments. One fire technician with a $90,000 ended up with over $270,000 due to overtime pay.

Supervisor Pat Herrity (R-Springfield) said in particular with first responders working overtime, “They’re not just fiscal issues — they’re public safety issues.”
