Tie Thwarts Phoenix Advance to Semifinals

VYS Phoenix's Scoreless Tie Ends Region I Run, Despite Going Unbeaten

In spite of dominating possession throughout most of the match, and numerous shots wide of or over the goal, VYS Phoenix '99 could not find the back of the net.  The 0-0 tie against Fuller Hamlets (Massachusetts), combined with FC Pennsylvania Strikers (PA-E) defeat of ASA Premier (MD), ended Phoenix's bid to reach the semifinals of the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships.  Phoenix's record of 1 win, 0 losses, and 2 ties could not advance them to the next round.

After Friday's tie to Arundel Soccer Association Premier, and the defeat of FC Pennsylvania Strikers, Phoenix '99 had to win Sunday's match against the Fuller Hamlets.  Controlling possession was not enough as Phoenix could not score, despite numerous shots.

Phoenix '99's season is not over, however.  They will continue preparations for the National Premier League (NPL) Championships commencing July 14, in Aurora, Colorado.  Phoenix '99 is the first Vienna Youth Soccer team to compete on the NPL finals.  In group play they will open up against teams from Washington, New Mexico and New Jersey.
