Vienna Church Plans MLK Day Service Projects, Blood Drive
Church of the Good Shepherd invites the public to join service projects at home or in person for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
VIENNA, VA — Church of the Good Shepherd has events coming up to recognize the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service as well as address the need for blood donations.
Monday, Jan. 17 is a federal holiday and a day of service. The community is invited to get involved with service projects at Church of the Good Shepherd in person or at home. In-person projects will be held, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the church, 2351 Hunter Mill Road, Vienna.
Some projects planned by the church are Valentines for teachers, writing cards of support and encouragement to prisoners of conscience through Amnesty International, collecting and sorting food and nonperishables for the Community of Faith food pantry in Herndon, and collecting hygiene supplies (especially for girls) to send to the nonprofit BRAWS. Residents may drop off canned food and hygiene supplies at the church.

"We welcome participation from the community, and have planned a variety of projects for all ages that can be done in person or at home," said Joyce Lynn, chair of the church’s Outreach Committee.
Another upcoming initiative is a blood drive on Jan. 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. benefiting Inova Blood Donor Services. Inova as well as American Red Cross have recently spread the word about a blood shortage and called for donations.
