Vienna Crime: Woman Attacked After Online Dating Encounter
Suspect ran from local hotel after woman's screams alerted others, who called police.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from Nov. 21, 2014 – Nov. 27, 2014. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

Grand Larceny 14-012995 900 Block Plum Street, SW Between August 1 at 12:00 p.m. and August 30 at 12:00 p.m. A resident reported that a bicycle was taken from his yard.
Bad Check 14-012940 Princess Jewelers 529 Maple Avenue, West November 4, 2014 1:36 p.m. An employee of the jewelry store reported that a customer had paid for a jewelry purchase with a check. The check was returned for insufficient funds in the account.

The employee had made attempts to collect payment for the jewelry however the customer has not yet resolved the matter.
This case is being investigated.
Animal Case – Quarantine 14-012889 200 Block Maple Avenue, East November 14 12:00 p.m. A citizen advised ACO Barker that she was bitten by a medium size dog that was tied to a pole in a parking lot of Chipotle. The citizen stated the dog’s owner did not know she had been bitten and she did not get the owner’s information.
The citizen later decided to go to an area hospital for rabies treatment as a precaution.
ACO Barker is following up on this case in an attempt to identify the dog that was described a medium sized brown cocker spaniel mix.
Animal Case 14-012832 400 Block Center Street, North November 18 1:00 p.m. ACO Barker responded for a complaint of a dog that was running at large.
After making several unsuccessful attempts to locate the dog’s owner he transported the dog to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. The dog will remain at the Shelter until an owner can be identified.
Vandalism 14-012987 400 Block Ridge Road, SW Between November 21 at 4:00 p.m. and November 22 at 7:30 a.m. A resident reported damage to a basketball backboard in his yard.
Attempted Fraud 14-012788 1200 Block Cottage Street, SW November 17 4:24 p.m. A resident reported receiving multiple calls from an individual claiming that Verizon and Cox Cable were going to merge into one company and that she now owes a large sum of money to them.
The caller knew some of the resident’s information, although the resident had not provided them with any personal information. Officer Herrera attempted to call the company from the number on the caller I.D. but the call could not be connected. The resident was advised to block the telephone number to avoid further calls from them.
Animal Case – Quarantine 14-013044 The Hope Center 140 Park Street, SE November 20 5:00 p.m.
An employee reported that she had been bitten by a cat while attempting to perform a medical procedure. The cat had been released to the owner who lives in Fairfax County.
The Fairfax County ACO will follow up with this case.
Animal Case 14-012934 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South November 21 11:40 a.m. A citizen brought two dogs to the Vienna Police Station that he had found running at large in the area of Routes 123 and 7 in Tysons Corner.
After attempts to locate an owner were unsuccessful ACO Barker transported the dogs to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter where they will be held until their owner can be identified.
Arrest – Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle / Stolen Vehicle Recovery 14-012997 / 14-012991 200 Cedar Lane, SE November 21 6:00 p.m. A resident reported that she and her adult son had traveled to West Virginia. Her son then took her vehicle, prompting her to report the vehicle as stolen to police in West Virginia. The son brought the vehicle back to Vienna, giving it to his mother at the Cedar Lane Shopping Center.
Without his mother’s permission, the son continued taking the vehicle. He was now at their residence and threatening to leave in the vehicle again.
Officer Herrera arrested Mr. Jo Coste Spencer Lane, 28, of Melody Lane, SW in Vienna on the charge of Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. Mr. Lane was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was released on an unsecured bond.
The West Virginia authorities were advised of the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 14-01960 400 Block Marshall Road, SW November 21 10:40 p.m. MPO Shaw was on patrol when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. As a result of that offense he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment.
After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested Mr. Steven Lucien LeFrancois, 18, of McHenry Street in Vienna for Driving While Intoxicated. Mr. LeFrancois was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
Mr. LeFrancois was held on a $1000.00 bond.
Arrest – ABC Violation 14-012961 400 Block Marshall Road, SW November 21 10:44 p.m. While MPO Shaw was out on a traffic stop / DWI arrest (incident #14-01960) he observed the passenger in the vehicle hide something in the glove compartment. After speaking with the passenger he detected signs of possible impairment. The officer located an alcoholic beverage in the glove compartment.
MPO Shaw charged Mr. John David Paez, 19, of Hillcrest Drive, SW, in Vienna with Underage Possession of Alcohol. He was released on a summons.
Narcotics Violation 14-012965 Cottage Street and Walker Street, SW November 21 11:55 p.m. Officer Slebonick was on patrol when he observed a driver commit a traffic offense. As a result of that offense he conducted a traffic stop.
Officer Slebonick found the vehicle to be occupied by four juveniles and he detected a strong odor of marijuana as he approached the vehicle. A baggie of marijuana was located in the vehicle.
Petitions in this case are pending.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 14-012968 Maple Avenue and Mill Street, NE November 22 1:24 a.m. Officer Reedy was on patrol when he noticed a driver commit several traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected signs of possible impairment.
After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested Ms. Michelle Lee Pinaula, 27, of Ellery Circle in Falls Church for Driving While Intoxicated. Ms. Pinaula was transported to the Vienna Police Station where she was given the opportunity to provide a sample of her breath for analysis. After the analysis she was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and was to be held until she was sober.
Vandalism 14-013028 100 Block Center Street, North Between November 22 at 1:00 p.m. and November 23 at 10:00 a.m. A resident reported that his vehicle had been damaged while it was parked outside of his residence.
Assault 14-013005 Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West November 22 10:11 p.m. Officers responded to the report of an assault that had just occurred. A citizen advised she had been assaulted by a man she had met through an on-line dating website. Other individuals at the hotel and a hotel employee heard the woman’s screams for help and came to assist her. The man assaulting her immediately left the area when he was told that the police had been called.
This case is being investigated.
Suspicious Event 14-013051 500 East Creek Court, NE November 23 9:00 a.m. A resident reported her patio furniture being moved and the screen of her sliding rear door was ajar. MPO Seitz checked the patio and found no signs that anyone attempted to enter the house and no apparent damage.
Domestic Dispute 14-013023 Echols Street, SE November 23 11:00 a.m. A resident advised that she and her husband were having a verbal dispute.
The husband agreed to leave the residence for a short time to allow the two of them time to calm down.
Juvenile Case 14-013076 Desale Street, SW November 23 11:00 a.m. A resident reported that her juvenile daughter left home without permission.
This case is under investigation.
Fraud 14-013030 600 Block Frederick Street, SW November 23 4:39 p.m. A resident reported being defrauded of money from a person she met through an on-line dating website. The individual advised the resident he was in financial trouble and needed her to send money to a person he owed money to in New York.
The resident sent the initial sum of money that had been requested through Western Union. The individual then began requesting she send additional money.
This case is being investigated.
Open Door 14-013033 900 Block Shady Drive, SE November 23 8:31 p.m. Officer Slebonick and MPO Shaw responded to the report of an open door at a vacant house.
The residence was searched and nothing appeared to be disturbed. Officers were able to secure the door.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 14-013043 Cottage Street and Kingsley Road, SW November 24 3:00 a.m. MPO Shaw was on patrol when he observed a driver commit a traffic offense. As a result of that offense he initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver MPO Shaw detected an odor of marijuana.
The driver was found to be in possession of a bag of marijuana. MPO Shaw charged Mr. Michael Austin Pierson, 20, of Walker Street, SW in Vienna with Possession of Marijuana and released him on a summons.
Animal Case 14-013090 Just Tires 352 Maple Avenue, East November 25 8:00 a.m. An employee advised of a hawk that appeared to be in distress. ACO Barker located the injured hawk and transported it to the Pender Exotic Pet Care for treatment.
Juvenile Case 14-013108 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW November 25 12:06 p.m. School officials reported a juvenile had left the school without permission. Officers assisted in locating the juvenile. The juvenile was returned to the school and left in the care of their staff.
Trespassing / Alcohol Violations 14-013118 100 Block Dogwood Street, SW November 25 4:08 p.m. Officers responded to the report of two juveniles trespassing in a house under construction. The juveniles were located in the area by Officer Tracy.
Upon his interaction with the juveniles, an odor of alcohol was detected. They both admitted to drinking alcohol and they were found in possession of additional beverages containing alcohol.
Officer Tracy transported the juveniles to the Vienna Police Station and contacted their parents who responded to pick them up. Both juveniles were released to the custody of their parents.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 14-013137 Maple Avenue and Lewis Street, NW November 26 2:17 a.m. Officer Reedy was on patrol when observed a driver commit several traffic offenses. As a result of those offenses he initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected signs of possible impairment.
After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested Mr. Robert Harrison Magee, 59, of Oliver Street in Fairfax for Driving While Intoxicated. Mr. Magee was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and was to be held until he was sober.
Attempted Fraud 14-013143 100 Block Casmar Street, SE November 26 3:08 p.m A resident received a telephone call from an individual claiming to be with the IRS. The caller stated she owed the IRS money and she would be arrested if the debt was not satisfied.
The resident did not transfer any funds or provide any information to the caller, but instead contacted the police immediately.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 14-013160 Cedar Lane and Desale Street, SE November 27 12:19 a.m. MPO Shaw observed a driver speeding and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment.
After failing to successfully complete a series of sobriety tests he arrested Mr. Oscar Rene Hernandez, 44, of Jacks Lane in Falls Church for Driving While Intoxicated. Mr. Hernandez was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and was to be held until he was sober.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 14-013162 100 Block Courthouse Road, SW November 27 1:25 a.m. Officer Slebonick observed a driver commit a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he smelled an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
The driver was found to be in possession of marijuana that was located in the vehicle. Officer Slebonick issued a summons to Mr. Alexander Barrett Sommer, 20, of South Erin Drive in Oakton, for Possession of Marijuana. He was released on his signature.
Animal Case 14-013166 Park Street, SE at the W&OD Trail November 27 9:44 a.m. Officer Tremont located a dog running at large. After attempts to locate an owner were unsuccessful he transported the dog the Fairfax County Animal Shelter where it will be held until an owner can be identified.
