Vienna Police: Woman Falls Into Hole Due to Loose Water Meter Cover
Plus, German Shepherd left at police station, bag of marijuana found at bank, underage drinking. Crime report from Town of Vienna Police.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from March 13, 2015 – March 19, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

Vandalism 15-002877 512 Maple Avenue, West February 13 2:00 p.m. A citizen reported that she had parked her vehicle in a parking lot to run an errand. When she returned to the vehicle she observed that someone had poured an unknown substance on the hood. She assumed the substance would wash away and did not immediately contact the police. However, the substance has since been found to be extremely corrosive and has caused damage to the vehicle.
Juvenile Case 15-002797 Hillcrest Drive, SW March 11 6:30 a.m. Officer Digan received a report from a resident that her son had not returned from school at his expected time. She stated he had been keeping in touch with her but would not confide in her where he was staying.
Case Update:
On March 16, Lt. Marsh contacted the resident and learned she had picked up her son and he had returned home.
Petit Larceny 15-002714 100 Block Kingsley Road, SE March 13 between 6:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A resident reported he had placed two trash bins out for trash pickup at 6:30 a.m. and when his wife returned at 1:30 the bins were missing.
Case Update:
On March 16 the resident found the trash bins had been returned to his yard.
Fraud 15-002703 100 Block Battle Street, SE March 13 9:56 a.m. A resident reported he received a message on his telephone from a caller claiming to be with the IRS. The caller stated the resident owed for back taxes and if the money was not paid a warrant would be issued for his arrest.
The resident called the police instead of returning the telephone call. Officer Herrera informed him the caller was attempting to scam the resident.
Medical Case 15-002710 900 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW March 13 12:30 p.m. A resident summoned rescue after his wife became ill and was unresponsive. Officer Digan responded to assist and was met by members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department who were evaluating the woman and determined she required transport to an area hospital.
Petit Larceny 15-002715 100 Block Kingsley Road, SE March 13 4:31 p.m. A resident reported the gate to her rear fence had been removed and the hardware had been taken.
Animal Case 15-002720 200 Block Lovers Lane, NW March 13 5:39 p.m. A resident reported that two dogs had been running at large in his neighborhood. The resident was concerned for the safety of the dogs and therefore he secured them in his backyard.
ACO Barker responded and was able to determine the owner of the dogs. The owner was contacted and stated he was unable to pick up the dogs.
ACO Barker transported the dogs to the Vienna Police Station where the mother of the dogs owner responded and took the dogs home.
Arrest – Alcohol Violation 15-002742 Meadow Lane at Kingsley Road, SW March 14 12:30 a.m. MPO Shaw was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic offense. As a result of that offense he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver and passengers he detected the strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. After speaking with everyone in the vehicle he determined they were all under the age of 21 and had all consumed alcohol.
MPO Shaw issued summonses for Underage Possession of Alcohol to an 18 year old female from Vienna, a 19 year old male from Vienna and a 19 year old female from Vienna. After signing their respective summonses they were released.
A fourth passenger, a 19 year old male from Vienna repeatedly refused to sign his summons and was taken into custody and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where a warrant for Underage Possession of Alcohol was issued. He was released on a $1,000.00 bond.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-002744 Meadow Lane at Ware Street, SW March 14 1:24 a.m. Officer Reedy was on patrol when he observed the operator of a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. As Officer Reedy approached the driver he immediately smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. Upon further interaction he determined the driver may have been impaired.
After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 24 year old man from McLean, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated.
The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was given the opportunity to submit a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis was completed he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and released to the Sheriff’s Deputies.
Animal Case 15-002748 Veterinary Surgical Center 124 Park Street, SE March 14 8:30 a.m.
An employee reported she was attempting to perform a procedure on a dog, Buddy, when her hand slipped into his mouth and he bit her.
ACO Barker contacted Buddy’s owner and informed her of the quarantine process. She agreed to comply with the process.
ACO Barker will follow up with this case.
Fraud 15-002801 Swan Bridal Boutique 425 Maple Avenue, West March 14 between 1:15 p.m. and 6:50 p.m. A customer reported she had become distracted after purchasing a wedding dress for her daughter and forgot to get her credit card back from the clerk.
She stated she became aware of her missing credit card when the bank notified her of attempted fraudulent charges on the card.
This case is being investigated.
Police Service 15-002757 900 Block Plum Street, SW March 14 1:30 p.m. A citizen reported that as she was attempting to enter the passenger side of a vehicle she stepped on a loose water meter cover. She stated the cover gave way and her leg went inside the hole up to her thigh. She stated she did not require medical treatment.
Officer Digan summoned an employee from the Department of Public Works who responded and secured the water meter cover.
Civil Case 15-002755 300 Block Branch Road, SE March 14 2:07 p.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station and spoke with Officer Herrera concerning on going issues with a tenant.
Officer Herrera informed the resident of the eviction process should he wish to proceed with having his tenant removed.
Medical Case 15-002759 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE March 14 4:10 p.m. Officer Herrera responded to a residence after receiving a report that a resident may have been in need of medical attention. Upon his arrival at the residence Officer Herrera spoke with the resident who stated she may have taken more than the directed dose of a prescription medication.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel responded and transported her to an area hospital to be evaluated.
Assault 15-002808 300 Block Branch Road, SE Between March 14 at 7:30 p.m. and March 15 at 7:30 p.m. Officer Herrera responded to a residence in response to an on-going landlord/tenant dispute. Upon his arrival at the residence he was met by the tenant who informed him the landlord’s son, who resides in the basement of the residence, had approached her in an aggressive and threatening manner. Officer Herrera informed her of the process to obtain a warrant however she did not wish to pursue charges at that time.
Officer Herrera then spoke with the tenant in the basement who stated an argument had ensued between him and the upstairs tenant that continued into the parking lot where she struck him with her vehicle. Officer Herrera informed him of the warrant process and he also declined to pursue charges at that time.
Case Update:
On March 17, MPO Shaver received information from the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Department that a Protective Order and a warrant for Assault had issued for the tenant living in the basement.
MPO Shaver responded to the resident and arrested the 32 year old male and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where the Protective Order and Assault Warrant were served.
The resident was then transported back to his residence in Vienna.
Narcotics Violation 15-002770 700 Block Glyndon Street, SE March 14 10:21 p.m. Officer Slebonick was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver and passengers, all juveniles, he detected the distinct odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
After speaking with the driver he located a measurable amount of marijuana. Officer Slebonick transported all the juveniles to the Vienna Police Station where there parents were contacted and responded to take their children home. This case is being investigated.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-002776 800 Block Maple Avenue, East March 14 11:43 p.m. Sergeant Sylmar was on patrol when he observed the operator of a vehicle commit a traffic violation. As a result of the violation he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol and observed that the driver’s behavior indicated that he may have been impaired.
After the driver failed to complete a series of field sobriety tests Sergeant Sylmar arrested the 23 year old man from Herndon, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated.
The man was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to submit a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis was complete he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and held on a $2500 bond.
Extortion 15-002796 200 Block Tapawingo Road, SE March 15 8:36 a.m. A citizen reported that her ex-boyfriend had been sending her emails texts threatening to release information that could possibly get her fired if released. Officer Herrera spoke with the ex- boyfriend and explained the seriousness of his actions. He agreed to cease any further texts or emails.
His ex-girlfriend declined to pursue charges.
Natural Death 15-002809 400 Block Lawyers Road, NW March 15 4:35 p.m. Officer Digan responded to a residence after being notified by Fairfax County Emergency Medical personnel that an elderly resident had succumbed to what appeared to be a heart attack.
After speaking with the deceased resident’s nurse he determined that no foul play had occurred.
A detective will follow up with this case.
Medical Case 15-002817 Nutley Street at Orchard Street, NW March 15 11:39 p.m. A resident reported that she was concerned for her brother’s wellbeing. Officers located her brother and transported him to Fairfax Hospital for observation.
Animal Case 15-002826 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South March 16 1:00 p.m.
An unidentified woman brought a German Shepard to the police station and left the dog in the lobby. ACO Barker transported the dog to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
Arrest – Narcotic Violation 15-002848 Nutley Street and Marshall Road, SW March 16 11:17 p.m. Lieutenant Taylor observed a vehicle driving recklessly and initiated a traffic stop. Officer Reedy assisted with the traffic stop and, upon his interaction with the driver, detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
After speaking with the driver and the passenger the officer found them both to be in possession of marijuana. The driver, a 19 year old male from Springfield, Virginia, and the passenger, an 18 year old male from Springfield, Virginia, were charged with Possession of Marijuana. The two individuals were each issued a summons and released on their signatures.
Juvenile Case 15-002850 Hillcrest Drive, SW March 17 2:23 a.m. A resident advised that her juvenile son had left home without her knowledge and she was concerned for his wellbeing.
Upon the officer’s arrival at the home, the resident was in telephone contact with her son. Arrangements were made for officers to respond to the juvenile’s location and transport him back home.
Narcotic Violation 15-002875 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW March 17 11:06 a.m.
A staff member found a wrapper that he believed contained marijuana in the hallway of the school. The wrapper was turned over to the police department for destruction.
Suspicious Event 15-002905 600 Block Roberts Drive, NW March 17 10:10 p.m. A resident reported that her husband had received a suspicious telephone call from the relative of an employee who he had recently fired from his company.
Arrest – Traffic Violation 15-002909 Maple Avenue and Niblick Drive, SE March 17 11:12 p.m. Officer Reedy observed a vehicle commit a traffic offense and conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver, the driver provided him with a false name. Once the driver’s information was verified, it was determined that the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license.
Officer Reedy arrested the 27 year old man from Sterling, Virginia and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with No Operator’s License. He was released on his signature and a $2500 unsecured bond.
Arrest – Narcotic Violation 15-002931 Maple Avenue and East Street, NE March 18 9:37 a.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed a vehicle being driven with expired license plates. Officer Herrera initiated a traffic stop for the violation. Upon his interaction with the driver the officer detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
After speaking with the driver he located a container that contained marijuana and a smoking device. Officer Herrera charged the 34 year old man from Hamilton, Virginia with Possession of Marijuana. He was issued a summons and released on his signature.
Juvenile Case 15-002934 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW March 18 10:27 a.m. Officers responded to the area of the school to assist the school staff with two female students that had left the school. The two students were located and transported back to the school.
Police Service 15-002936 Northwest Federal Credit Union 231 Maple Avenue, East March 18 1:29 p.m. A bank employee advised an officer of a small suspicious bag that was found in the bank. The bag contained a small amount of what appeared to be marijuana. The bag containing the marijuana was turned over to the police department for destruction.
Police Service 15-002949 100 Block Sanoey Circle, SE March 18 9:35 p.m. A resident reported suspicious noises coming from inside her home. Officers searched the home, finding no evidence of an intrusion.
Found Property 15-002985 213 Maple Avenue, East March 19 8:15 p.m. A citizen reported finding an individual’s debit card in the parking lot. The issuing bank was notified and agreed to contact the owner.
The card will be held at the Vienna Police Station to be released to the owner.
